Constant Vigilance!
Businesses exclusively spend their resources on hardening their systems so much that they forget one of the most problematic growing threats: social engineering attacks. Some of the earliest hackers exploited trust weak points to break into networks. Today, as robust defenses improve, this has become a focused point of infiltration.
Organizations often have the following checklist for their security teams:
✅ Password complexity and expiration rules
✅ Two-factor authentication methods
✅ Passwordless integrations with enterprise software
✅ Robust network and traffic monitoring tools
What they overlook is the human element coupled with automated LLM-driven solutions. These contact points are exploited to trick staff into sharing credentials, authorizing changes, resetting accounts, and leaking other sensitive information that compromises the organization. Sometimes "Good Samaritan" requests or urgent responses cloaked as normal business are used to drain bank accounts without anyone noticing until it is too late.
It is imperative to audit your internal business processes, especially for data sharing, financial transactions, and communication with outside entities. Implementing a regular training program for all employees and running realistic phishing tests ensures everyone remains vigilant against threats.
Never take a call, email, or request at face value. Require secondary verification for anything involving credentials, access changes, or financial movement.
